A crystalline tower housing Soyak, a company with a large contracting arm, would need to be fully operational even after a major event, so we applied performance-based design (PBD) principles to the project.

The focal point of the Soyak Kristalkule complex, the new headquarters of the Soyak Corporation in Istanbul, Turkey, is a 35-story tower with asymmetrically sloping surfaces, crowned by a glass-enclosed roof garden soaring 28 meters tall. The tower sits atop an eight-level, mostly underground horizontal component with open courtyards. During design, seismic structural performance expectations were discussed since Soyak, a company with a large contracting arm, would need to be fully operational even after a major event.
We provided structural design services to Pei Cobb Freed & Partners for the project. To meet this goal within a building featuring unique geometry, we applied performance-based design (PBD) after establishing specific performance criteria, design procedures and analysis procedures.
