Emily Kunkel has been brought on board as a vice president in the Applied Science practice to help grow our decarbonization business. Since joining Thornton Tomasetti, she has been focused on expanding the firm’s presence in the carbon capture, use and storage (CCUS) and transportation sectors.

Emily, who is based in our Chicago office, has more than 10 years of professional experience and specializes in post-combustion carbon capture applications. Her background includes the execution of CCUS feasibility and U.S. Department of Energy-funded front-end engineering design (FEED) studies as well as the management of large-scale CCUS development projects.

“There is a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between the decarbonization of the industrial sector with carbon capture and storage on cement kilns and steel manufacturing, which would help lower embodied carbon in the building industry. I am excited to be a part of that effort,” Emily said.

She has a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago and is a professional engineer in Illinois.
