ASME Features Tom Duffy on the Engineering Behind The Shed's Movable Design

Thornton Tomasetti Principal Tom Duffy is featured in an ASME video about The Shed, the movable cultural center at Manhattan’s Hudson Yards. The video explores how structural, electrical, and mechanical engineers coordinate their work and apply ASME standards to make a building move.

Our structural and façade engineers, kinetic design specialists, and construction support experts worked together from day one to make The Shed’s flexible design possible. Its 4,000-ton steel shell rolls along rails to enclose an adjoining plaza in just five minutes, creating a 17,000-square-foot space for performances and events. Early collaboration with architects, fabricators, and contractors helped coordinate the building’s many moving parts.
