Exchange Detroit has given “raise the roof” a whole new meaning. The 16-story residential building’s nearly one-million-pound roof was lifted all the way to the top (approximately 200 feet) on April 30 in just 10 hours. The steel and concrete structure traveled at 20 feet per hour on strand jacks that are part of LIFTbuild, a first-of-its kind technology with a vertical manufacturing approach. Thornton Tomasetti has been providing structural, construction and façade engineering as well as acoustics, noise and vibration services to Barton Malow’s LIFTbuild team for the project. With the roof in place, work will continue at grade on the 16th and consequent floors, which will be followed by a conventionally built two-story mixed-use podium. The high-rise, which is located in Detroit's downtown Greektown, will welcome its first residents in spring 2023.
