Our Planet: 2025 Corporate Progress Report

In 2025, we reduced per capita emissions by 46% from our 2018 baseline, and by 5% from 2024. This per-person reduction is greater than our reduction in absolute emissions because the firm continues to grow its workforce by around 10% each year. We are progressing toward our 2030 goal: reducing per capita emissions by 72% from our 2018 baseline.

A key strategy for reducing our operational greenhouse gas emissions is to apply sustainability principles when we fit-out new workspaces and renovate existing offices. Our global office fit-out policy states that all office fit-outs and renovations of 4,000 square feet or larger should consider LEED certification, or an equivalent standard, at the Silver or Gold level. Through this policy, 14 of our leased offices, past and present, have achieved LEED certification or met equivalent standards. We envision efficient, healthy, and comfortable workspaces, and this policy helps us put that vision into practice. Our in-house sustainability professionals consultant on these projects.

Purchasing renewable energy is another key strategy we use to reduce our operational emissions. In 2025, our office electricity emissions dropped significantly because we purchased renewable energy certificates (RECs). For the past three years, the firm has purchased RECs for all U.S. locations. In 2025, we purchased RECs for all office locations worldwide for the first time. Because we lease rather than own our offices, RECs are our best strategy for renewable-energy purchasing. We also offset all our flight emissions annually because travel remains critical for meeting with colleagues and clients and visiting projects. As our workforce grows, we are traveling more by air, and purchased offsets covered a larger share of emissions in 2025 than in previous years. Our 2025 offsets support improved forest management and the production of low-carbon cement.
