Richard specializes in protective design at Thornton Tomasetti. He helps clients develop risk-informed strategies that balance resilience, accessibility and operational performance. He translates complex security requirements into integrated design solutions at site, building, facade, and lobby scales, drawing on expertise in blast engineering, physical security design, and threat, vulnerability, and risk assessments. Richard's work includes perimeter-protection strategies, anti-ram barriers, structural and facade hardening, security planning, and other protective measures for federal facilities and embassies, as well as healthcare, commercial, civic, and cultural projects. He coordinates these solutions with architectural and structural design teams and delivers technically rigorous, practical protective design strategies.
