Engineering the Second Largest Mall Facade

The second largest mall in the world, the Dubai Mall is home to over 1,000 retail stores, 160 food and beverage outlets, one of the world’s largest indoor aquariums, an Olympic-sized ice rink and a 22-screen movie theatre. The mall welcomes an estimated 37,000,000 million people annually.

We provided façade engineering and structural design services to DP Architects to support the mall’s facade systems.

Highlights

• The mall features several façade systems, including lightweight precast panels, tensioned fabric, aluminum curtain walls, canopies, cladding, point-supported glass atria, stainless steel trusses, vertical bi-folding steel and glass doors, and extensive secondary steel support structures.
• Our façade team assisted with the design and technical review of numerous critical path systems during the final stages of building construction.
• We also provided investigation and post-failure engineering analysis for one of the point-supported glass atria.
