Acoustic Design for Student Residence Housing
Thornton Tomasetti provided acoustics, noise and vibration consulting for Nova Scotia Community College’s (NSCC) new student residence at the Ivany Campus in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The five-story, 96,000-square-foot building accommodates 200 students in apartment-style suites, supporting a quieter and more comfortable campus living environment.
Working with FBM, our team consulted on noise isolation between residential, study and support spaces, as well as mechanical noise control for occupied areas. Our scope also included site inspections to help confirm that acoustic recommendations were incorporated as intended.
The residence supports NSCC’s goal of providing modern, sustainable student housing while helping students live, study and gather in spaces designed for comfort, privacy and everyday campus life.
