Overview

555 Greenwich established a new benchmark for offices by blending an unprecedented combination of sustainable features to meet a resilient and net-zero carbon future. The stunning building blends into the historic 345 Hudson Street property in Manhattan's Hudson Square neighborhood, allowing tenants to occupy a floorplan that spans the entire block. The development will exceed NYC’s 2030 climate target for office buildings by more than 45% and is on track to meet NYS 2050 carbon neutral goals.

We provided structural design services to Hudson Square Properties & Hines for the project. Because we were brought into the design process early on, our team designed structural systems that allowed for an efficient, self-reliant and sustainable result.

highlights

• To align the footprint with the adjacent building, we utilized a concrete structural flat slab system with drop panels to mirror the concrete system of the building next door.
• By adding topping slabs, we were able to create space for a radiant floor heating system and cooling tubes to traverse the floorplates. This system utilizes 20% less energy compared to traditional forced air vents.
• To incorporate resilient features into the building, we designed a pressure slab for the cellar to improve floor protection.
