Capital One Arena Renovation

Capital One Arena is Downtown Washington D.C.’s premier sports and entertainment venue, and its renovation will reenergize the city’s urban core. Gensler, in collaboration with Monumental Sports & Entertainment, created a new façade that harmonizes with its immediate context, and upgraded seating and amenities will provide an inclusive and top-of-the line fan experience. 

We are providing structural design, protective design and façade consulting services to Gensler for the project, which includes improved circulation, enhanced seating options, expanded food and beverage options, state-of-the-art athletic facilities and cutting-edge technology, new social decks with views of the arena floor and new entrance atriums. The renovation will prioritize both fan and player experience.

highlights

• Our structural, protective design, façade and façade access consulting scope includes a new ETFE cladding, structural glass cable wall, aluminum and glass curtain walls and other miscellaneous rain screen assemblies for the Arena, improved entrances, elevator and escalator reconfiguration, an enlarged atrium and new canopy roof structure at both F Street and the Gallery Place Alleyway and new terrace and bridge connections to the arena.
• Our construction engineering scope includes retrofitted connection design to accommodate the improved arena circulation program.
• We are working closely with the design team and ownership to incorporate protective design features into the renovation and new facade to address blast and vehicle ramming threats per league standards.
