ASCE: Pittsburgh Draws Inspiration For Its “Right-Sized” Airport

When the Pittsburgh International Airport modernization wraps up in 2025, passenger operations from check-in to baggage claim will be consolidated in a new 700,000-square-foot terminal. Designed for a post-pandemic world, the Pennsylvania air hub will also be high-tech and sustainable while giving travelers a sense of place. Senior Principal and Aviation Market Sector Leader Thomas Poulos talks with ASCE’s The Source about some of the engineering solutions that helped make the $1.4-billion project possible.
