From Broadway shows and concerts to performances by local artists and a range of other events, Capital One Hall in Tysons, Virginia, is active year-round. Designed by HGA with Thornton Tomasetti serving as structural engineer, the building—with its striking sawtooth marble and glass façade, sprawling public rooftop park and column-free theater with cantilevered balconies—puts on a show of its own. In the August cover story of American Institute of Steel Construction's Modern Steel Construction, Vice President Michael Cropper and Senior Project Engineer Jennifer Greenawalt write about the design challenges behind the steel-framed building, which houses a 1,600-seat main theater, 225-seat black box theater and large atrium.
