About

Andrew Nelson specializes in technical safety engineering and risk management across such industries as oil and gas, rail, nuclear energy, aerospace and defence. He has considerable experience developing risk mitigation plans, quantifying the effects of various hazards, especially fires and explosions, and the application of safety and reliability engineering techniques. Andy is well-versed in the application of safety and risk engineering techniques such as quantitative risk assessments hazard and operability studies, hazard identification studies, safety integrity level assessments, fault and event tree analysis, failure modes and effects analysis and layers of protection analysis. He has extensive experience in the quantification of blast-related hazards including numerical modeling of vapor cloud explosions and solid phase explosives. Andy’s work includes creating onshore and offshore fire and explosion protection standards, fire and blast design, the assessment of offshore fixed installations and the creation of loss-exposure profiles for assets subjected to extreme events.

Andy has developed particular expertise the oil and gas industry in both the upstream and downstream sectors and has served such clients as Woodside, INPEX, MODEC and Aker Solutions.
