Julie Pietrzak P.E., LEED AP, ENV SP, WEDG, CFM
Senior Principal & Sustainability and Resilience Practice Leader
Julie Pietrzak, a licensed civil engineer and head of Thornton Tomasetti's Sustainability & Resilience practice, leads a multidisciplinary team spanning architecture, engineering, science, and digital innovation. Together, they integrate sustainability and resilience into the built environment through projects that address climate risk, resource efficiency, and long-term performance. Julie specializes in climate risk and resilience assessments, flood mitigation, stormwater management, and hydraulic and transportation infrastructure.
Her work encompasses a broad range of climate-related issues, including decarbonization, energy and water efficiency, and circular economy strategies. She partners with clients to develop solutions at multiple scales, from policy and master planning to the design and delivery of buildings and critical infrastructure. Julie’s approach focuses on evaluating how site-specific climate hazards and operational stresses impact assets over their life cycle, enabling risk-informed decisions that strengthen resilience, reduce disruptions, and support business continuity during extreme events. Julie is an active participant in American Society of Civil Engineers Committee on Adaptation to a Changing Climate (CACC) and the Structural Engineering Institute’s Performance-Based Design and Adaptation and Resilience initiatives.
