Director

Pete Johnson is a safety and risk specialist at Thornton Tomasetti. He applies performance-based design and first-principles, physics-based analysis to complex industrial and infrastructure challenges. His work includes hazard identification, risk assessment, consequence modeling, computational fluid dynamics, safety workshops, performance standards, and safety-related decision-making.

Pete has worked across hazardous process facilities, transportation infrastructure, and buildings, focusing on risks associated with lithium-ion batteries, hydrogen production and storage, carbon capture, and other decarbonisation technologies. He also assesses fire, vapor cloud explosion, and thermal runaway hazards and develops strategies to mitigate lithium-ion battery risks in parking garages and other buildings. Pete applies established safety engineering methods to emerging technologies and evolving energy markets.
