Rhys Centin joined Thornton Tomasetti’s applied science team in 2022, following five years at Australia’s Department of Defence, where he worked in the Directorate of Navy Engineering. He supports key explosive safety capabilities in the defence industry, including computational fluid dynamics (CFD) blast modelling and customized assessments of fragmentation breakup and related risks. He has also helped develop new shock test and evaluation capabilities, including the Floating Shock Platform, the JASSO medium-weight shock-test machine, and airgun firing systems. Previously, Rhys worked as a systems engineer specialising in explosive ordnance systems, supporting their safe integration on maritime platforms and defining technical requirements for defence projects.
