John Glenn Columbus International Airport, New Passenger Terminal
Featuring gently curving rooflines inspired by the topography of the Midwest, a new terminal will enhance the passenger experience, expand travel capabilities, increase functionality and provide modern amenities.
overview
A new terminal at John Glenn Columbus International Airport will replace the original 1958 terminal. This project aims to boost the regional economy of Ohio’s capital, aligning with the mission of “Connecting Ohio with the World.” It features gently curving rooflines inspired by the Midwest’s sweeping horizons and flowing waterways.
We are providing structural design, protective design and facade engineering services for the new terminal, which was designed by Gensler along with Moody Nolan. The new terminal will enhance the passenger experience, expand travel capabilities, increase functionality and provide modern amenities.
Highlights
- The project involves structural design for a new terminal and concourses, which provides the airport with increased domestic and international capacity and functionality.
- A key feature is a grand marketplace anchored by a central oculus, seamlessly linking the new east and west concourses.
- The design includes a long-span pedestrian bridge connecting the new terminal and parking garage over an existing roadway and a long-span roof between the two concourses.
