Nature-based solutions (NBSs) – design strategies that mimic the natural environment – offer a number of benefits, including improved air and water quality, temperature reductions, stormwater management, recreational revitalization, enhanced social equity, and improved health and well-being. In recent years, NBSs have been recognized as an opportunity to adapt to the effects of climate change.

Here's How

Customizable NBS plans

NBSs mitigate some of the most common natural hazards, including urban stormwater and riverine and coastal flooding, storm surge, coastal erosion, and drought. Compared to traditional gray infrastructure, they offer higher triple-bottom-line (social, environmental and economic) benefits while also offering a flexible and dynamic solution to the uncertainties we face due to future climate change.

We provide the expertise to create customizable NBS plans, no matter your project’s typology, location or scale, incorporating Engineering With Nature® concepts and the latest in green infrastructure technologies into building and site design. Whether addressing drought conditions or increases in rainfall – or combined and compounding hazards within a site, watershed, or coastal area – NBSs offer additional value over traditional, single-purpose gray infrastructure and reduce emissions, getting at the root cause of climate change.
