Overview

A new elevated crossing will create a pedestrian-friendly and accessible route between the Denver State Capitol and Lincoln Veterans Memorial Park, connecting these major civic spaces for the first time — just in time for Colorado’s sesquicentennial in 2026. The flowing design was informed by the meandering pathways of Colorado’s rivers, with the walkway widening and narrowing as it traverses the park’s topography. It incorporates regional materials such as sandstone, marble and granite.

We are providing structural design services to Studio Gang for the pedestrian walkway, which will feature viewing platforms, sculptural monuments, newly commissioned artworks by Colorado artists, play elements and opportunities for learning and storytelling. The project is slated for completion in summer 2026.

Highlights

  • The bridge is approximately 890 feet long and respects key sightlines along the east-west axis from the State Capitol steps.
  • There is a significant elevation change between the two sides with the State Capitol side being approximately 23 feet higher.
